JD Wetherspoon have bought off the Bear Public House on Bath Road, Melksham, Wiltshire.
The Bear house was a former coaching inn on the old London to Bristol coach road. Pub giant JD Wetherspoon is interested in acquiring The Bear in Melksham, the Wiltshire Times understands.
The Wadworth-owned pub shut down unexpectedly last month, and is up for sale.
Negotiations are believed to be under way between the pub giant and the Devizes-based brewery.
